If you wish to provide or continue to provide BAS services, you will need to apply to the Tax Practitioners Board to register as a qualified BAS agent.
BAS Agent Training – Education information for current BAS Agents
For an individual to become registered as a BAS agent they must meet certain education requirements (as well as having certain levels of experience). These education requirements for individuals are as follows:
1. to have been awarded at least a Certificate IV in Financial Services (Bookkeeping) or (Accounting), and;
2. to have successfully completed a BSA Agent training course in GST/BAS taxation principles that is Board approved.
GST/BAS agent courses for those who have higher awards
For those who have completed a course at a higher level than a Certificate IV, such as a Diploma or Degree (requirement 1), but have not completed an equivalent basic GST/BAS taxation principles course (requirement 2) in that higher level course. A BAS Agent Registration Skill Set has been developed to allow you to complete a course in GST/BAS (requirement 2). This Skill Set is based on and contains FNSBKG404A and FNSBKG405A. This Skill Set will also apply to those who may have completed a Certificate IV Financial Services (Bookkeeping) or (Accounting) but their course did not include either or both of the above units.
